Sustainability at the met gala

Did you know that this dress included crystals made out of recycled glass bottles from Brazil? This year’s Met Gala theme was Gilded Glamour. The embroidery is entirely created with crystals made out of recycled glass bottles sourced from Brazil. The zipper and all the inner materials used for the construction of the dress are made out of organic cotton and recycled plastic. What’s really important was that many of your favorite outfits from the Met Gala were designed in an environmentally friendly way! One example is this dress worn by Gisele Bündchen designed by Versace.

Another very fascinating look without harming our earth is Xiye Bastida!

Xiye Bastida, a climate activist and co-founder of the Re-Earth Initiative, has committed to never buy new clothes, and she kept her word at the Met Gala. Bastida wears her family's indigenous jewelry as part of her aim to emphasize the importance of interconnectedness in the struggle against climate change.

Finally, saving the best for last, everyone’s favorite, Camila Cabello!

Camila Cabello, speaking on the Met Gala's theme this year, the Gilded Age, stated how ironic she felt the period's overconsumption and excess was, because "all of those things have brought us to the climate problem." The clothing she wore was repurposed as a gesture of defiance. "I love that [my clothing] is sustainable," the singer added.
